Eat to survive to the next meal

There is such a lack of easily accessible quality food available it feels like most of the choices are just enough to have me survive long enough till the next meal. I find myself getting anxious around meal times, when I don’t have food that I made, with the thought of having to eat lower quality food, just so I can keep alive.

I try to keep fruits and nuts with me during the day, just in case I can’t hunt down a good meal. I’m wondering how many other people feel that way. Just because food is so . . . → Read More: Eat to survive to the next meal

I drink my water out of a mason jar

Experimenting with ionizing water and found out through research that the lower ORP (oxidation reduction potential) and the higher the pH (potential Hydrogen) liquid has, the better it is for you when you drink it. Conshohocken, PA tap water has an ORP of +250 and a pH of 7.7. While attempting to ionize the water and finding a cleaner product to start with I picked a bottled water that I drink all the time. It has an ORP of +220 and a pH of 7.7. That’s pretty much the same as tap water, meaning they have the same effect on your body (one . . . → Read More: I drink my water out of a mason jar

thought for food

During the day today I forgot to eat lunch. We were so busy at work, it didn’t even dawn on me until 8pm when I was about to order dinner. I usually get a headache from a lack of food, but today I didn’t even get that bodily reminder. I know not eating properly and frequently is bad for me on so many levels, and so much worse at certain times. That made me think about my nutritional plan……(<— that’s me thinking).

I have an idea about not only what to eat, but when to eat, what to eat. . . . → Read More: thought for food

AlKaline isn’t something from right field

A goal in my training is to have a slightly alkaline body PH level (higher than 7). The higher the PH level, the fewer toxins you’re carrying around (I don’t want to carry those freeloaders). Two truths: a) all diseases and toxins are acidic and b) bacteria, viruses and parasites die when exposed to high alkaline environments. Makes me want to be alkaline.

What we consume, breathe or otherwise introduce to our body makes it either acidic or alkaline. Our bodies try to maintain a PH level around 7. The more acid we introduce into our system, the harder our . . . → Read More: AlKaline isn’t something from right field

TMI

“The internets” (as W would say) has so much information, it’s nearly impossible to know what’s right and what’s wrong when it comes to health, nutrition and training for a triathlon. No matter what thought process you have, there is another competing one that is directly opposite of what you think (and the argument is usually compelling too). Questions that should be pretty easy to answer or should have at least been figured out by now, are not. These are just a few:

Should you eat dairy before or after a workout?

If you are incorporating creatine in your workout, is . . . → Read More: TMI

Relax, it’s just quinoa.

Among the many benefits of eating quinoa, the effect of having relaxed blood vessels is of particular importance for the flow of red blood cells, oxygen and nitric oxide (NO). That flow is so important in exercise.

shovel, just because Tom is training?” asked Jay. It’s becoming our weekly ritual to shovel the sidewalks and car lot. My mom offered to buy me a snow blower more than once.  Perhaps I’m a little screwy, but I look forward to spending the energy and time it takes to move the snow.

No Roger, No Rerun, No Rent

No coffee, no soft drinks,  no tea. During this year, I’m attempting to cut out all unnecessary caffeine, acidity, and high fructose corn syrup. Though caffeine is a stimulant and good for a burst of energy,  I would like to avoid the negative side of it. Caffeine is a diuretic, pulls water from your cells, and increases the acid in your body which is the opposite of what I’m trying to accomplish in training. An acidic body causes it’s own set of problems, and high fructose corn syrup is, well… pretty much the worst stuff on earth.
