exercise is medicine

I was watching a documentary about how your body can heal itself. I’m very anti-drug, and anti-doctor who perscribe drugs for any and everything. So the film was something I knew I’d enjoy. If there was only one point that I had use to sum up the film, I couldn’t…..OK, but if I could, it would be: exercise is like medicine for our body. I could explain that more, but I don’t have to.

Absinthe

It started with a guy drinking a clear liquid and ended with someone else hallucinating for days.

There’s a show in Las Vegas called Absinthe. It’s venue is in a small ‘tent’ with incredible acrobatics, balance, concentration, humor and at least one audience member dreaming. You can overlook the small budget to find a potentially life changing message. I’ve seen bigger ‘shows’ and more directly motivational messages, but for some reason my hallucinations haven’t stopped since Wednesday last week. What was so powerful? What made this thing have mind altering effects? Isn’t just entertainment and a way to make . . . → Read More: Absinthe

good thing

The day of rest (Monday), was the perfect day to do some running or biking (I didn’t and that was a good thing). It’s not a complaint though, I do enjoy the weird weather. I figure it will give me an advantage in Arizona (where it’s always a perfect day) on the outside chance that it’s a weird weather day there. I’m heading home shortly and it’s going to be tough not to do something physical outside.

I had a mental slip up that included pizza at lunch today. Now I know why I’m OK without it. The thing was good, but . . . → Read More: good thing

Lord of the Flies

Did you ever see a body builder that had a huge upper body but their legs were skinny? There is a reason for that beyond the obvious. Though contributing factors include not working those muscles (as much or not at all), the main reason is because their body is eating itself to satisfy the need to build the other muscles. Sounds a little strange, but true.

When we workout, our muscles fill with red blood cells, amino acids, water, oxygen and waste (lactic acid). We can guess where the oxygen comes from. Water is a little trickier. A bottle . . . → Read More: Lord of the Flies

17 Hours. 17 Hours? 17 Hours!

If I were to attempt the Ironman tomorrow, I’m pretty confident it would take me 17 hours to complete it. My swim should take me about 2 hours, my bike should take about 7 hours and the marathon should take about 7 hours, the last hour should comprise of the transition time between events.

If I were to attempt the Ironman tomorrow, I’m pretty confident it would take me 17 hours to complete it? I can’t even imagine swimming for two solid hours, can you? I’ve been on a bike for five hours, but would it really take me two more . . . → Read More: 17 Hours. 17 Hours? 17 Hours!

dominos delivers

stomach upset at 2 am. I guess I’ve been eating pretty good lately and went a little crazy last night and ordered pizza from Dominos. It was quick, cheap, tasty, and satisfied my laziness. It was so tasty in fact that I ate a whole pizza. I think I opened the box a number of times afterwards too, hoping to find another piece. I’ve been known to pound the pizza in the past, but have been satisfied with the alternatives recently.

Everything was fine, I finished watching the last of three episodes of Modern Family on the computer and . . . → Read More: dominos delivers

Eastern PA Kentucky Bluegrass Juice

I cut the lawn last night…. with scissors, put the clipping onto a plate and into the juicer. After all, I’ve been juicing wheat grass, what’s the diff? The juice came out just as green, but surprisingly it really didn’t have a taste. I have no idea how much chlorophyll, vitamins, or minerals EPAKBJ (as I like to call it) has in it. I’ve read about the amazing benefits of chlorophyll and want those benefits.

Sixteen hours later, I have no ill effects. I feel really good today, but that could be just because I feel really good, not because . . . → Read More: Eastern PA Kentucky Bluegrass Juice

It’s really difficult

I know what I want to eat and what I want to avoid. But it’s nearly impossible to eat the way I want to on a daily basis. There are probably 100 places to eat lunch in the surrounding area, and everyday I struggle with finding something that 1) appeals to me 2) is cost effective 3) isn’t damaging to me. I know I have to compromise one or two of these things, but really don’t want to. That may be OK for some people, but not me. I can’t just throw my hands up and say, oh well that’s just . . . → Read More: It’s really difficult

wheatgrass

I want to eat things that are growing and edible, not processed and dead. Wheatgrass fits in the first category. Now I suppose that I could buy wheatgrass capsules or wheatgrass powder and be done with it. But, I’m unclear how they can extract the nutrients from the grass (which is in the liquid) and provide it in a powder form. If you’ve ever juiced a fruit or vegetable, did you drink the juice or eat the fiber left over? Now imagine the juice in your glass, how do you make it into a powder?

In any event, I’d . . . → Read More: wheatgrass

‘Give Me More Energy Cookies’

Not to be confused with ‘Muscle Muffins’ or ‘Glute “oh my” Bars’, ‘Give Me More Energy Cookies” are what I ate before my workout last night and had 30 min on the stationary bike averaging 19.2 mph and 30 min on the treadmill averaging 8.2 mph. I still had energy when I got off the treadmill but decided not to continue working out. That’s pretty hard to do, but somehow I’ve been pretty good about not over training. I can’t wait to see the ‘cookie effect’ when my workouts become longer and even more intense.
