Fastest 12 miles so far!

Last night after work I needed to go for a 12 mile bike ride. That’s right, I needed to. My workout calendar says so. I have no choice, so that’s what I did.

I took the Schuylkill River Path (soon to be renamed Super Fast, Tire Blazing, Stretch of the Schuylkill River Path) from Norristown to Valley Forge. I wasn’t necessarily wanting to go fast, but as soon as I passed the Norristown Transportation Center, my legs took control. The goal for the night became: to say “on your left” many times and not hear it once. As a courtesy to pedestrians, fellow bikers and the occasional stray cat, it’s nice to give them warning that someone is coming up behind them and passing them on the left.

It took me 41 minutes to go 12 miles (including the last big hills in Conshy to get home). Now, If I could only keep that up for five + hours….

Hi Tom I was wondering how big those hills were that you had to go up/down on the 12 mile bike ride…Out of curiosity Just email me a pic of them with a reply. I’ve ridden 12 miles or so in 34 min tonight the weather is kinda warm out here but I’m not sure what the weather was like when you rode. I’m just curious if how long it took me is a good time.

      Isaac,

The hills in Conshy are pretty steep. Of course I try to always pick the steepest (because I’m goofy). I’m guessing the elevation is around 150 feet from the trail to my house. I attached a clip in the next post (not sure how to do it in a reply). Twelve miles in 34 minutes! That’s awesome! It’s just less than 22 mph. The tour de france just started and they were averaging 25 mph. I don’t remember what the temp was that night, but will pay attention from here on. I’m guessing it was in the 60′s. Now…high 80′s and humid. I’d like to know your bike spects if you can look for me…how many teeth on your biggest sprocket and the smallest and what is the length of your crank arms? Do you have a goal, or just like riding and want to go fast?
