Run Checklists

This is a list of what I need to bring with me for the run: sneakers, thin socks, braces, shorts, hat, gps watch.

I still have a hard time calling sneakers, running shoes, but I have to bring a pair with me no matter what they are called. The other day I was running in my sneakers with a pair of ordinary socks and after I got home, my pinky toe was crying ‘Wee Wee’ for a few days. So to avoid that again I’m going to wear a pair of thinner socks. I use braces on my left ankle and on my left knee. I’ve run before without them, but not very far and don’t want to leave home without them. I’m on the modest side and am going to wear a pair of shorts over my all day trisuit.

I’m debating on wearing my Boston hat (because it’s my cool running hat) or trying to find a Phillies hat (because I’m not from Boston). Either way, I like wearing a hat when I run to keep the sweat out of my eyes. The last piece of equipment is my gps watch. It tells me how fast I’m going and how far I’ve gone (more like how much further I have to go). These items along with assorted food items will make my run more, umm err, enjoyable.

A marathon is hard enough. Attempting one after swimming and biking for a few hours is going to be….. a challenge. The neat thing about the marathon is that I can always walk. There is no doubt in my mind at this point that I can walk 26.2 miles, but I’m going to do the best I can not to walk. I’ve hit all the running distances I wanted to during training, and I have a memory of succeeding each time. The most important thing I need to add to the run checklist is the thought of NEVER GIVING UP. When I make it to the marathon on Sunday, I’d have done something up to that point that was practically impossible every other day of my life including that day.  A little  ‘ jog through the park’ won’t stop me completing Ironman Arizona 2011.

With my checklists complete, no matter how prepared I am, I WILL forget some piece of equipment. But knowing that gets me prepared to just move on without it. I only really need a bike and some shorts. Everything else is just a bonus.
