I’m locked in!

My morning bike ride had my feet locked to the bike! I got clip less pedals.  That means my sneakers are clipped to the pedals (why are they called clip less then? I have no idea). Anyway, I can’t just take my feet off the pedals or move them around unless I do my special seated dance move (I just did it by the way).  I’ve been practicing with my other pedals when I come to a stop. I tried not to remove my feet from the pedals and back pedal or move very slowly to keep them ‘attached’. So my first few minutes of being ‘really attached’, was pretty fun (thank goodness for walls).  Once I got moving, I didn’t notice a difference. Supposedly after a long ride (more than 10 miles), I should notice the difference because fatigue would typically make my feet move around on the pedals. If any difference was noticed, it was because I knew I was locked to the bike. There were only two occasions that removing my feet from the pedals came into play. Once at a turn around (I’m not too good at that yet) and once at the end of the ride. I’ve heard too many stories about people who were clipped to their bike that broke their arm. It’s because when they came to a stop, they forgot they were clipped in and didn’t do their seated dance move to remove their feet from the pedal and fell over. Of course landing on their arm, breaking it. If you see me with a cast, it’s because I was rushing into a burning building to save an kid or a dog from the flames, not because I didn’t react appropriately at a stop on my bike and fell over. (At least that’s the story I’ll ever tell)

The  picture with my new fancy shoe clipped to the pedal of my shiny new bike wearing my fashionable Denigma jeans was taken mere moments before heading out the door this AM (Yes, I wear jeans (it was really cold today!)). I can’t wait till Saturday to test the theory of appreciation for clip less pedals on long rides. Being locked is just another reminder that I have no choice. I pedal when I’m on that bike and I stop when I’m off. I wish there was a way to lock me into the things I constantly push off…..
