Enjoying this nice long summer

Rest week was too freaking fast, and this event is creeping in quickly. I refuse to let anyone around me say such things though. There is no “I can’t believe we’re in August already?” or “Did you see that Target already has Halloween stuff for sale?”, and definitely not “your race will be here before you know it!”.  Let’s just enjoy these realllllly long summer days, OK?

This particular realllly long summer morning, I thought I might as well (minus well) get used to running AFTER riding the bike. So that’s what I did this am. No swimming today due to this irritating pain in my left shoulder.I don’t need a shoulder to bike or run though! I went 12 miles on the bike, sweated like a pig, then immediately changed shoes and took off out the door (I’m guessing transition time was less than 2 minutes). My Garmin watch didn’t find the satellites right away, so I was running on time (since time is standing still these days….). When the GPS found me, I was running just over 8 minute miles. That seem like a good pace for me. When I got done (just over 24 minutes and around 3 miles), I felt good about being able to run after biking, even though I only did 10 percent of the full distance.

Now I have the whole rest of today, tonight and early morning tomorrow to recuperate to do it again. But that’s so far away to think about, I’ll just enjoy today.
