4:45 am wake up call

I mean 4:53. No I mean 5:02. Actually what I meant was 5:11. OK, you got me it was 5:20. Damn snooze button. It’s just too easy to hit. When I eventually do get up, I love Tuesday mornings. It’s the first time back in the pool since the previous Thursday.  I’ve been having a tough time swimming more than one length of the 25 meter pool without taking a brake. I’ve been practicing breathing and relaxing, but no matter how fast or slow I go, I need that break. Today I had motivation not to break too long though. There were so many people at the pool this morning, a few of us shared lanes. I was lucky enough to have a fellow amateur swimmer in the lane with me. Neither one of us are fast by any stretch of the imagination, but with my breaks, we always passed in the middle somewhere (usually more toward my end of the pool). My motivation came from not wanting him to pass me going the same direction. So my breaks were much shorter than usual.

In the next three lanes were really good swimmers with their coach, stop watch and drills. Besides being really fast, they were all very smooth in the water. As I was finishing my workout, I got out of the pool and heard their coach tell them the times it just took them to cross the pool. Remembering that my fastest time ever in the history of ever was 18 seconds, I heard him say 13.2, 13.5 and 13.9…….WHOA?!  So I guess it was really a 6:40 wake up call.
