Slowpoke Rodriguez just pulled a Favre!

He’s coming out of retirement! The crank arms I got, don’t fit my bike…. Womp Womp.

Back to the drawing board…..

Slowpoke Rodriguez is retiring

About ten minutes ago I got a box delivered to my office. I couldn’t rip it open fast enough. Inside were my special order 200mm crank arms and a 55 tooth chainring! It’s time to go faster!

The hardest 10 seconds in life.

You have the purple alligator pinned down, as you look for your keys in the note book you used in third grade. This is your one chance at stardom. Then, out of nowhere, you hear church bells. Church bells? Now, that doesn’t make sense!! You look up to find out where they are coming from and suddenly everything goes dark and disappears…..

What happens next, are the hardest 10 seconds in life…….

What reappears when you look again is your bedroom. You found the source of the bells! Your body is heavy, your head is cloudy and you . . . → Read More: The hardest 10 seconds in life.

It’s a choice, then it’s not

Today I met one of the new lifeguards at the Kroc center. She commented how I must be committed because I’m there as early as or earlier than she is everyday. Committed. I should be committed! (that was too easy). I heard the following phrase from somewhere and it rings true. Well, here it is paraphrased anyway: It’s easier to decide once to improve everyday, than to decide everyday to improve. It’s no longer a conscious decision. That’s just what I have to do. There is no decision about it. The how to improve part is the difficult part……. . . . → Read More: It’s a choice, then it’s not

It’s Official!

I was talking to Steve today and showing him the race course on the IronmanArizona.com website. He signed up as a security volunteer (if you’ve never met him, people are going to listen to him when he tells them they have to move). So I think that will be a good detail for him.

That had me going through the rest of the website. I looked on the participant list, and……….

Enjoying this nice long summer

Rest week was too freaking fast, and this event is creeping in quickly. I refuse to let anyone around me say such things though. There is no “I can’t believe we’re in August already?” or “Did you see that Target already has Halloween stuff for sale?”, and definitely not “your race will be here before you know it!”.  Let’s just enjoy these realllllly long summer days, OK?

This particular realllly long summer morning, I thought I might as well (minus well) get used to running AFTER riding the bike. So that’s what I did this am. No swimming . . . → Read More: Enjoying this nice long summer

oar not

This is an actual picture of me. I’ve been training so much and lost a lot of weight. During Shark Week I analyzed my swimming technique and tried to figure out what would be slowing me down (or keeping me from going faster). As you can see from the actual footage of my swim (above), my right arm in a) and b) remains in front of my body until my left arm completes the circle and replaces it in front of me. My left arm is not so cooperative however (especially when I take a breath). In photo . . . → Read More: oar not

I actually enjoy swimming

The AC in my house isn’t working, so after my bike ride today, I went swimming. I was there for an hour and when I got out I questioned myself why I did. I didn’t have a time limit, nor did I have a place to be. In the pool I feel comfortable. I relax. My muscles don’t strain and my mind is free. I can go as fast or as slow as I want and I don’t sink. Just knowing that gives me confidence to learn how to breathe; inhale above the water and exhale below the water. . . . → Read More: I actually enjoy swimming

I hear footsteps….

This morning as I was jogging, I went on the path from Conshy to The Home Depot and back. It’s just over a 3 mile round trip. I know it’s my rest week, but I had to keep in practice with a short workout. I figured since I was going to only go for a short while, I’d pick up the pace a bit. My pace has been in the range of 8-9 minute miles recently. Today I wanted to be faster than that.

I walked to the path, started to jog and finally picked up the pace . . . → Read More: I hear footsteps….

I’m on my water break

It being rest week and all, my water break is really long. It doesn’t mean I’m taking a break from drinking water, just the opposite. Today through Monday (my typical rest day), I’m drinking as much water as I can handle, and shooting for 3 gallons a day. Since I’m such a mathematician lately, that’s equivalent to 24 bottles of water a day or 2 an hour for 12 hours. I did this as part of the Great 2011 H2O Experiment last month during a reeeeallly hot and non-rest week. This week is supposed to be cooler (right Hurricane Schwartz?!), so I’ll see the difference . . . → Read More: I’m on my water break
