doing my part(ing)

If you didn’t watch the video about swimming, please watch it. I couldn’t imagine that I would be able to move like that in the water. Granted, it’s only my second day swimming in about 32 years, but the technique is amazing. Getting it through my head that the propulsion comes from parting the water molecules in front of me and passing my body through the ‘hole’ I just made in them, instead of relying on pushing the water back or kicking like a madman, works like magic. I can’t wait to wake up and do it again in . . . → Read More: doing my part(ing)

I Float!

This morning at 5:10 my alarm went off. After hitting the snooze button once, I got out of bed and picked up the bag I prepared the night before and headed out the door. It was too early to eat and I was too anxious to sit around and wait for the sun to rise before I left. On the way to the community center, I realized I forgot my goggles. Should I turn around?…. Na! I don’t anticipate swimming too long anyhow, I thought.

The parking lot was surprisingly full. As I was looking for a spot, I . . . → Read More: I Float!

I Love McDonald’s Hamburgers….

because they made so much money for the founder, and his wife, Joan Kroc, built an amazing community center that is giving me a cheap place to swim! Check this place out:

So, tomorrow morning I take my first plunge!

Unfortunately, for a nutrition plan, the burgers don’t quite fit in. But I would like to thank everyone who doesn’t mind the lack of nutrition for helping me save a few bucks in my training.

Water water everywhere……

but not a cheap, convenient place to swim. I live in a town with no community/fitness club/YMCA pool. The closest one is also the most expensive one, and I haven’t found a place that would just give a pool pass. I never thought it would be this difficult.

I’m going to take the dive on Monday morning….somewhere.

They add up fast…

Last night I did a workout pyramid again. This time the number of reps increased with each level. For each level (1-10), One chin-up, 3 push-ups, 3 curls with a 20 lb weight, and 6 sit-ups were performed. The totals for less than an hour workout were: 110 chin-ups, 330 push-ups, 330 curls, and 660 sit-ups. The neat thing is that I felt like I could keep going. Even an hour later, I felt strong enough to do the whole thing over again, but I didn’t.

I’m glad I didn’t do the math until after the workout was done. . . . → Read More: They add up fast…

Bikes, more than meet the eye

Holy Cow there are so many things to consider! I’ve been researching on my own, running into conflicting opinions about the type of bike to get (time trial vs. road bike, carbon vs. aluminum), the length of crank (165mm vs. 220mm and everything in between), the number of chain rings (30-54), The type of ball bearings (It’s all ball bearings nowadays, hey). So here is what I’ve learned so far:

NOTHING CONCLUSIVE!

My perfect bike would be really fast, really smooth, and a lot of fun. Logically the following things make sense to me:

1) Trying to reduce the weight . . . → Read More: Bikes, more than meet the eye

Impossible….

happens, everywhere, all the time. Impossible is not only possible, it’s common. Impossible is the new 30. Impossible needs a new definition.

Impossible is a challenge. Impossible is a dare, Impossible is a certainty that something WILL happen, just so the people will exclaim “That’s Impossible!”

I just hope that the Ironman is impossible!
